Tailwalk Crimson S80MH-F

It's not often a Japanese range carries a shorter, more powerful rod, and that's exactly why I like this one. At 8ft it's a nice all-round length whether you're on the boat or the shore, and it gives us a genuinely usable inshore boat rod, which the rest of the range doesn't. From the shore it comes into its own at closer range where you need the power rather than the distance: hauling a fish out of the weed in an estuary, or wrasse fishing when you know there are big ones in front of you. The blanks in this range are responsive enough that bottom contact is always excellent, which matters for that sort of fishing. The rating takes in a wide spread of the larger lures, hard or soft. Like the 88MH it gets double-leg guides down towards the butt, so it's a more solid build than the rest of the range, and it's still a light rod in the hand. The cork grip is a nice touch.
