Offshore

Since we began supplying Zenaq rods to the UK, the whole world of offshore/boat/overseas rods has exploded. Rods for species like GT’s and tuna, and the many weird and wonderful species that live generally in more tropical climates. Of course though, Cornwall is blessed with one of the best bluefin tuna fisheries in the world, so we’ve naturally rods here that are designed for exactly that too!

Choosing an offshore jigging rod

Advice from Ben Field, Art of Fishing

Length

A boat jigging rod is typically about 6ft.

Slow jigging rods tend to be longer and lighter than faster jigging rods, and these are always becoming more popular.

Longer rods are more tiring over a session. There is more physical weight, but those longer sweeps take more effort individually as well.

Casting weight

For inshore jigging in shallower water, rods rated to around 150g and under are generally where I'd start.

Action

For jigging, I do like rods that bend. They don't use fast or extra fast actions. A slower, more parabolic rod spreads the load through the blank rather than putting more pressure on the tip section.

The slower action is a big part of what makes them feel so different from a more traditional jigging rod.

A rod that bends more technically has to move further as it straightens.
