Wrasse

Pre-2010 or so it would have been a believed idea that you needed something like an uptide rod or beachcaster to haul a hard fighting wrasse from the rocky ground in which they live. Many would never have expected a wrasse to even take a lure either! But as soon as hardy tribe of lure anglers decided to see what was possible, a whole new target and method exploded. Not only were we suddenly landing good wrasse on comparably light rods, but we were catching as many, if not more, on lures than we ever did on bait! Bigger ones too!

The best wrasse rods are much like many of the allround bass rods we typically use today, but on the whole in the shorter lengths. Rods between 7’6” and 8’6” are probably considered the most versatile. And fast actions and rods designed for bottom contact and more vibration transmission are the best options. You need to feel the lure through and around the bottom structure while ideally still having some power in the butt to bully a fish when needed.
