Tailwalk B-Breamer SSD S710M/SSL

The B-Breamer SSD 710 is a solid tipped bass rod for us. Bass or wrasse, realistically. It's rated at 21g, but when you see the level of power down in the butt, you'll kind of understand how this is quite a specialist Japanese rod. Even in the way they've done the ratings, it feels almost more like a 30g rod to be fair.

Whereas at the other end, which is where the interesting part is, you have this solid section. This is different from the 76 within this range, because this is a shorter solid tip. The point of the solid tip with these is that it's giving you more sensitivity, more vibration basically running through the length of the rod when you're bouncing lures along the bottom, which is what they're really designed for in Japan. They're catching relatively decent sized fish on them, but fishing relatively small lures, slowly retrieving little soft plastics, little crankbaits even as well, tiny little things that are going to scuttle along the bottom for their bream species.

For us, that's relevant both for our wrasse and for our bass. For our bass, this particular rod has become really interesting since we've started using it, and actually started changing the way that we fish to a certain extent within our estuaries especially. If you are fishing for example with creature baits, which has become a very popular thing to do in and around the estuaries, this is almost a rod that's designed for it literally. But the difference for us is that when you're catching bass, potentially some of the bigger fish that we catch are in our estuaries, so we do need this level of power. You've got the power to land these fish and haul them out of the weed, but the sensitivity to fish all of the lures and feel every little pluck of the bites.

The handle itself is actually quite an interesting one. It does have the new Fuji reel seats, which I think, whether they intended it or not, combined with the design of the rod and the vibration coming through to your hand, this harder grip actually does mean that it transmits literally every little thing to your finger. So bottom contact sensitivity — have a look at these, because they're unique but amazing.
