Sometimes conditions here in Cornwall really get going! Big waves, exposed coast, heavier lures… and hopefully some bigger fish to go with it too.

I’ve categorised a mixture of rods in to this collection. Anything generally slightly longer or more powerful is well at home here.

Choosing a heavy shore jigging rod

Heavy shore rods

I often think of these as pumped-up bass rods.

Length

Shore jigging rods are typically 2.7m to 3.1m long. Longer equals more distance and occasional manoeuvrability benefits. Shorter is less tiring and generally nicer to use.

Casting weight

For shore jigging, I'd be looking at rods that handle 60g to 150g jigs.

Reel pairing

A 5000 to 8000 size spinning reel is the usual pairing.

Fishing

The sort of thing I'd be looking at for shore-jigging at home or away, and as proper big fish specials.
