If ever a range of rods shouted Portugal at me, it would be this. For the guys I know that either fish very rough conditions here, or occasionally do travel to the likes of the Portuguese coastline for the big bass that live there, this rod is just so perfect it's unbelievable.

There are numerous rods within this range: the 102, the shortest and lightest; the 108, which is this one and perhaps the more usable, nice all-rounder; and the 112. Between them they cover so much. Heavy coast, heavy bass, heavy lure type of fishing.

They're designed for rough seas, but from a travelling perspective the fact that it's three-piece means it's obviously a bit more compact. As it turns out, this three-piece makeup gives it technical benefits as well, because like the 102, this one has the put-in tip section to it. This means you get a level of softness or lightness within the tip that can then kick in more quickly into the power, into the middle and the butt section. This one is just a slightly stepped up power model over the 102.

It's rated to cast up to 45g and you'd think that would be underestimated in reality. The tip section is quite comparable to your normal 45g bass rod, just having that little bit of extra power to it and being a nice heavier all-round bass tip. What's different about these is that when it kicks into that middle section with the put-in joint and then into the butt further, you're just getting progressively more and more power down the rod. I feel like honestly you could probably fish 60g on it without too much stress. I can't realistically tell you to do that, because it's been given a 45g rating by Tailwalk for whatever reason, but it is a powerful rod, not easily comparable to a normal 45g rated bass rod.

Anybody that's done a lot of bass fishing locally especially will know that the rougher the sea gets, the more the bass are turned on by it. There are certainly scenarios in the UK where it'll just be perfect as well, situations actually where I often haven't bothered fishing because the seas can just look too rough at times. I love everything about them and I really need to get out more with stuff like this.
