The Dark Horse stood out the first day the samples arrived. Buying direct from the factory is what gets the price where it is, and these are the nicest rods I've seen for this sort of money. At 8'6" it's the all-rounder of the range, and between this and the 842 most bass anglers in the UK are well sorted. It's the lighter-rated of the two, so it isn't the rod for the open coast in a big surf, but for anyone fishing lures in the low twenties and under it's a properly high-quality, lightweight, responsive bass rod. You'll be very happy on the lightest plastics, right down to 10g and below, and there's still enough in the tip for a 20g surface lure. The weight compares with rods costing two or three times as much. A lot of rods are getting too stiff these days, mostly to feel good in the shop. This one bends when you want it to, which just makes it a nicer rod to fish.
