Tailwalk Hi-Tide SSD 711L+/SL

I didn't much like this one when they first came in. It was a bit weird, and four or five years ago it was too niche for the fishing we were doing. Since then anglers have gone lighter and shorter and closer in, and suddenly it makes a lot of sense. What sets it apart is the solid tip. Solid tips are softer, and they're really there for straight retrieving, because they give the fish less resistance on the take and a bit of time to turn with the lure before you hook into it. For us that pays off with lightly weighted and unweighted soft plastics, and with creature baits. It's a very different rod to the B-Breamer SSD, which is faster with a much steelier tip, so think of them as complementary rather than as alternatives. If you're fishing very light in calm, shallow water, this is the better of the two. Once you're up past 5 or 6g and bottom bouncing, the Breamer's stiffness starts to pay. On the rating, it's a shade optimistic for a bulky lure - expect it to handle a touch less than the top figure suggests once you're loading it up rather than working something light.
