Sakura Dark Player Long Range Spin 8'10 M+

Listed as 8'10", which in most other brands' money is a nine-foot rod. What I like about it is that it carries a 25g rating at that length and actually means it. Sakura used to underrate things, so a 25g rod might really have been a 35; these are now genuinely light-rated bass rods that still handle what they say they will. In practice the overall power sits about where a 30g, maybe even a 35g Japanese bass rod would.

That makes it an all-rounder rather than a light rod. If you want something finer, look at the 8' M+ instead. The balance is lovely, helped by the longer grip and the slightly more robust guides, and the matte blank is a nice thing to own. If you can, come and waggle one in the shop - and if you are buying blind, all you really need to know is that this is the all-round one of the three.
