Is Reel Weight Important?
Reel weight matters less as an absolute number and more for how the whole outfit balances. A reel that looks heavy on paper can feel right on the rod it's paired with, because the weight sits under your hand and counterbalances the blank. A very light reel on a longer rod can leave the outfit feeling tip-heavy.
Lighter reels generally cost more, and the weight saving usually comes from lighter body and rotor materials. That's worth paying for if you're holding the outfit and working lures all day. It's worth less if the reel spends its life in a rest or gets knocked around rocky ground, where a bit of robustness is the better buy.
If you can, try the reel on the rod before deciding. The grams on the spec sheet tell you less than thirty seconds of holding the pair together.
