The circle geometry is unchanged: the point turns back to the shank, so the hook takes hold in the corner of the jaw as the fish turns away. What changes is the gauge, and with a large bait on a heavy trace that is the thing that decides whether the hook comes back the shape it went out. Forged high carbon steel, chemically sharpened, black nickel.
