The Roots fluorocarbon is just bombproof. It has a nice little bit of stiffness to it, which is genuinely useful with the sort of lures you are twitching more aggressively - the last thing you want then is a supple leader wrapping itself around everything. It knots really well, and it is a strong, robust, reliable line that will not let you down.
Most of our shore fishing is done with anything between the 12 and the 20lb, and it goes heavier than that for ground that will punish a leader.
12lb is the lightest of the shore range I would normally point somebody at.
16lb sits in the middle of that 12 to 20lb band, which covers most of the shore fishing we do.
20lb is the top of that everyday shore band.
25lb is a step above the everyday range, for when you need something that will stand up to the rocks and the mussel beds.
30lb is the heaviest we stock, for ground that will chew a leader up: rocks, mussel beds, and whatever else you are fishing over.
