Its only the 6th day of 2026 and already this must be in line for session of the year!
“With some decent weather and tides today, I thought I’d start my 2026 bass fishing on one of my local estuaries. This is one of those spots I’ve sussed out over the previous seasons, and I know that if I fish it two hours after low water, the bass will move through this channel to push further up the estuary. That gives me a cracking little pinch point where the bass seem to feed.

Third cast of the year and I was straight into a fish, with the next three consecutive casts resulting in three low- to mid-60cm bass… cracking result!! It slowed slightly after that, but I still managed another five fish in the mid to upper 60s and a couple of smaller ones over the next hour and a half. The fish definitely seemed to come through in flurries and would hold around this gully at range.
As expected, these fish were completely dialled in on taking small critters off the bottom, so natural-coloured sleeper crawls and 3–4 inch paddle tails, worked slowly along the deck, did the damage.
Once the tide slackened off, the fishing went quiet, but I persevered for the next three hours just to see if I could figure out any more patterns with the fish on this mark. As expected, I didn’t get another touch. All in all, a fantastic afternoon, and I couldn’t ask for a better start to 2026!!”
