Tailwalk
Ajist SD
The Tailwalk Ajist SD are brand new for 2025. The 5’5″ model weighs only 38g, so you can tell that EXTREME lightness are the name of the game here. These ultra sensitive, super light rods are beautiful to look at too.
There’s something for every LRF angler within the series of 5 rods which run from 5’5″ for canal towpaths and rock-pooling all the way to a tubular 7’2″ model which will excel with metals and slightly larger jigheads or light Cheb or Ned rigs. We are truly blown away by the Ajist SD. A step up from everything that’s come before, these are a leader among rods for UK LRF or ultralight predator fishing.
What do we think?
Ben SaysRod Blanks
I don’t generally get too much of a rundown on what materials Tailwalk are using in their blanks, but I do know these use an ultra light and responsive 40T base from which to build them. Stiff enough to easily work a lure, yet soft enough to cast and play fish on… The solid tipped models use lighter grades in the tip to allow for the softer level of precision that’s required there. “Hard Solid” tips use 30T, while the “Soft Solid” uses 24T. The tonnage of carbon usually just gets stiffer the higher it goes, so using the lower tonnage in the tips makes sense.
Ben SaysReel Seat & Grips
A sleek yet simple the incorporates a brand new Fuji design. I love how it feels in the hand just the right size and contours to make them comfortable to hold all day long. The rear is very short Yeah it does its job perfectly. Almost there as much to create friction on your forearm as it is to give you something to hold on to.
Ben SaysGuide Information
The guides as you would expect on a high quality rod are Fuji SiC. Given the lightweight nature of these rods you may be surprised to know that they’re not the high spec tourzites we have become accustomed to seeing on rods of this nature. This is no bad thing. The SIC guides are much harder wearing, balance perfectly with the rod and also keep the cost down little.
Ben SaysFinishing Touches
The blanks have that kind of matte finish to them. Naturally given how light the rods are they have saved grammes by excluding a heavy paint finish. The styling of the rods as a while is just beautiful. With silver and gold fixtures and fittings these are high class roles, and not just in design.
Tailwalk have grown to become one of the UK’s most respected Japanese tackle manufacturers. Known here mostly for their high quality, good value lure rods, the brand has many fans across all disciplines of lure fishing. What differentiates them from other brands is their diversity and suitability to a UK lure fishing scene that is not specifically Japanese in its inspiration.
