If you want a bit more distance and you're not fishing horrible rough ground, this is where it comes good, and with a 30g metal on it you'll cast a million miles. The rating covers most of the bass loads we ever use, and there aren't many of us needing more than 30g anyway. Read the top of it as a metal figure. It'd be a bit soft for a really big plastic shad at that weight, but with metals it's more than adequate, and even in the roughest surf we get it's rare to be fishing 35. It shares its rating with the 842 but does it over a longer blank, so it feels more progressive and you can spend into it a little more easily. At 9'6\" you want a rod that bends.
