At 8ft it's a nice all-round length whether you're on the boat or the shore, and it gives us a genuinely usable inshore boat rod, which the rest of the range doesn't. From the shore it comes into its own at closer range where you need the power rather than the distance: hauling a fish out of the weed in an estuary, or wrasse fishing when you know there are big ones in front of you. The blanks in this range are responsive enough that bottom contact is always excellent, which matters for that sort of fishing. The rating takes in a wide spread of the larger lures, hard or soft. Like the 88MH it gets double-leg guides down towards the butt, so it's a more solid build than the rest of the range, and it's still a light rod in the hand. The 82 has a 28g maximum rating, the 83 has 35g, and there's only an inch difference between their lengths. In reality the difference we find is that the 82 has a slightly lower grade of carbon within the tip section. That's intentional, to ensure it's actually a little bit more glassy and a little bit more elastic than the 83. It's slightly easier to bend and slightly more forgiving when you're playing fish, so for fishing with lighter lures and things like that it's just perhaps the better choice of the two.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRealistically it will cast a 28g metal, but I'd say it's going to come into its own when you're fishing lures up to about 20g. So not a rod for fishing out on the open coast in rough seas, but absolutely one for the estuaries, sheltered bays, or just generally calmer days where you're fishing lighter lures.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Crimsons generally are quite unique for us in that they're one of very, very few Japanese lure rod ranges that actually gives us that crisp steeliness that so many people really like these days. So many are so elastic and so forgiving, for lots of very good reasons. They've got a cork grip as well, something we don't see on many rods. There's no right or wrong with a lot of this and it does come down to preferences, but cork is one that I personally love, and it gives the guys that do love it an option. That extra crispness makes working a larger top water noticeably easier. It's rated to 35g but in reality it's a 30g rod, and that's the honest way to read it. Top waters up to about 20g are no trouble at all, and the same goes for plugs and shads into the low to mid twenties, which covers nearly everything you'd want for general bass fishing. This is different from the 76 within this range, because this is a shorter solid tip. The point of the solid tip with these is that it's giving you more sensitivity, more vibration basically running through the length of the rod when you're bouncing lures along the bottom, which is what they're really designed for in Japan. They're catching relatively decent sized fish on them, but fishing relatively small lures, slowly retrieving little soft plastics, little crankbaits even as well, tiny little things that are going to scuttle along the bottom for their bream species.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor us, that's relevant both for our wrasse and for our bass. For our bass, this particular rod has become really interesting since we've started using it, and actually started changing the way that we fish to a certain extent within our estuaries especially. If you are fishing for example with creature baits, which has become a very popular thing to do in and around the estuaries, this is almost a rod that's designed for it literally. But the difference for us is that when you're catching bass, potentially some of the bigger fish that we catch are in our estuaries, so we do need this level of power. You've got the power to land these fish and haul them out of the weed, but the sensitivity to fish all of the lures and feel every little pluck of the bites.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe handle itself is actually quite an interesting one. It does have the new Fuji reel seats, which I think, whether they intended it or not, combined with the design of the rod and the vibration coming through to your hand, this harder grip actually does mean that it transmits literally every little thing to your finger. From the fourth guide upwards is actually a solid tip, and they're a very fast tapered solid tip, so not soft and floppy or anything like that. The benefit of that is that it's going to ensure you have more sensitivity, especially when you are actually touching the bottom with any lure. There are situations with solid tips where a solid tip can be less sensitive, but in the case of this sort of type of solid tip, they're all about bottom contact, which is what the Bream range is really for.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fish they typically will be catching on them, and designing them for, are bigger bream, hard fighting species, using lures that actually are quite light. This rod is rated from 3.5 to 18g. The line rating on them, which is always relevant, is a 0.4 to 1 PE, which always tells you about the power of any rod. As long as you stay within those ranges, that means for us it kind of becomes relevant as both a wrasse rod and a light bass rod. So in the estuaries, amazing for bass. On rocky marks where you're catching wrasse up to a sensible size, let's say 3 to 4 pound, they'll handle them typically.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVery, very sensitive rods. They will fish a surface lure, a small one, or different diving lures and things like that, and soft plastics. Just a brilliant rod all around really. The weight compares with rods costing two or three times as much. A lot of rods are getting too stiff these days, mostly to feel good in the shop.
