These fill the gap between LRF and bass, which is a gap that's grown as more of us fish lighter. At 8'4" it's short enough to feel like a proper light rod in the hand and long enough to cover the water, and the grip is a touch longer than you'd expect on a rod this light, because it's built to be cast. It's technically a rod for small metals, but the action makes it just as good with a light plastic on a jighead, a little shad, a small plug, or a top water if you fancy. It isn't stiff and steely, and that softer action is more forgiving when a fish takes on a straight retrieve. Fuji SiC guides throughout, so the components are right. Estuaries any day, or open sandy beaches when it's calm, and it'll handle the bass fine as long as you stay inside the line rating. On the rating: fair for what it's built for. It's a genuine 20g with a metal casting jig, but that's a jig figure, not a plug one - put a plug or soft plastic on it and it won't take much more than 10-12g. Set against a typical 20g sea bass rod it'll feel a touch lighter in the hand, so read it as optimistic-to-fair rather than a straight match.

The middle rod of three, and the one that probably makes the most sense of the range for the fishing we do. These came in as a fairly niche thing and I never really pushed them, which I regret, because bass fishing has moved exactly the way they suit: lighter lures, closer range, and a bit more fun out of it. At 8'9" you get enough length to cover water without losing the close control, and the grip is a touch longer than you'd expect on a light rod, because it's built to be cast. It's technically a rod designed for small metals, but the action makes it just as good with light soft plastics on a jighead or a small top water. It isn't stiff and steely like so much else, and that softer, cushioning tip is more forgiving when a fish takes on a straight retrieve. If you fish the estuaries and fancy dropping down a bit, this is where I'd start. On the rating: fair for what it's built for. It's for anyone who wants distance without heavy lures: maximum projection, good line control, and still enough softness to cast something light. That's a specific combination and it isn't a rod for everybody. The line rating is where the limit really sits. It's rated to a light PE and that's real, because to make a rod this light and this nice to use they aren't using carbons built for hauling big bass off the open coast. Treat that rating as the limit rather than a suggestion and you'll have no trouble at all. In the estuaries, or anywhere you aren't fighting the ground, it's more than capable. Like the rest of the range it gets the longer grip, which suits casting a light lure a long way, and the action is softer and more forgiving than most, which pays when a fish takes on a straight retrieve.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0987/9299/7190/files/4516508162639-sp1_5b96f199-607f-4d53-853f-42e492af049b.jpg?v=1777459662
