The rating means you can put a big shad on and go, which is what it's for. Fish it more vertically and it'll take considerably more than the printed figure, because you're not casting it. Like the heavier models in the other ranges it gets double-leg guides and slightly larger guides throughout, which matters when a rod is getting banged about on a boat. What it isn't is stiff. As an all-round light lure rod for perch, chub, anything off the bottom on a small crank or a three-inch plastic on a jighead, it's beautiful. The grip is very short, which is a feature of the whole range. It makes jerking a lure around easy and it balances well without the extra length. The Bay Mixx ratings are a bit overgunned across the board, so take a few grams off each of them and you'll have it about right, this one included. A lot of people pick a rod up in the shop wanting exactly that. It means it'll take a larger surface lure, and it's a lovely rod with a plug or a shad if you're fishing rougher conditions. The tip end still isn't stiff though, so unweighted soft plastics are well within it.
